MEOW! (Hello!)
Im back from OBS!!!
Omg i had so much fun there, and i miss it so much.
I'm gonna update everything i did there (or at least what i can remember, so i may bave done other stuff which i might not mention down below), so those not interested in what I did or who dont feel like reading my everyday life at OBS, DONT READ THE FOLLOWING.
Day 1, (9th November, Monday):
Reported to scool at 7! Dam early right? Bus left around 8 i think.
Reached punggol campsite around 9 or so.. and waited for all the different schools to come strolling in untill like 10 plus or 11!!! So were were there waiting for almost 2 hours, not doing anything. Oh and the punggol campsite was the camp i went for in Primary 3. =) Good times.
Met Najeera there, didn't know she was coming. Met Arnold too, knew he was coming. What a coincedence. Close primary school classmates meeting here. Yea so, at first i thought Arnold would be going for a different course, but it was all the same! But he got into a different group and so did Najeera.
I was in group 2, he was in group 4, Najeera was in some far away group, there were altogether 16 i think.
So yeap, 16 people per group. And for every 4 groups, 3 school were mixed.
Example: Group 1, 2, 3 and 4 were made up of Bedok Green, Balestier Hill and Bedok South students. Get? =)
MY GROUP'S NAME WAS COOK. I LOVE MY GROUP.
(Cook as in James Cook, a sailor and explorer of the world!)
Then some introductory stuff and we set off to Ubin on a boat!!!!
We went to campsite 2 first. So that was our main campsite. Had a tour, couple of games and more introduction. Choosing of i/c's.
THen rationing of foods for the whole camp. So we had to pack it for each brakfast, lunch and dinner, pretty tiring and frustrating for the food i/c's.
Then after putting our bags in the store, we played mini trust fall, i shan't elaborate. Arnold's group got to do the real trust fall. No fair. =(
Then after we did belaying practice, it was pretty ok i guess, got to learn a new skill. And i did the "press your little finger and then interlock it so you feel the electric shock" to my group friends. It was so funny.
Can't remember anything else, but soon after, we learnt how to pitch tents and then pitched our own in the forest! There were holes in the ground, suspected to be dug by wild boars, so that was pretty scary. It was getting dark so we were almost pitching in the dark, quite hard you know.
Then dinner! Cooked rice! Turned out just a little too hard but apparently, the others thought it was "SHIOK AH!".
Had some canned food to cook too.
Shared sleeping area with Lindsay's and Syafiqah's group BATTUTA. And 4 to a tent. So Me, lindsay, Nasuha and Syafiqah shared a tent.
Day 2:
REPORT AT 6 AM WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE 6:30. Everybody was late. And report means; unpitch your tent, wash up and change and go down to the campsite.
We packed our bags for the expeditiong from Tuesday and Thursday. So our bags were really heavy cause it contained the essentials plus food rations. And I had to clean the grls toilet cause it was our duty that day.
Set off around 8 plus to campsite 1!
About 1.2km journey there, walking of course. Bag dam heavy man. But it was a super nice campsite. It was actually a building with nice facilities. Cause it was the instructor training area too.
Then did high elements!!! Best part. Had so much fun.
Lindsay didnt get to do, so she didnt get to conquer her fear. walau eh....
Poor arnold was trying to climb, but the girl he went up with couldn't continue( cause must go up 2 at a time) And when she came down, he had to too. lol.
Then practice kayaking to get a feel of it and capsizing drills and rescues. Two in one boat. Saw some jellyfish. Pretty big and long tentacles. And one of my group mates was really seasick, she threw up in the sea. And she was our rescuing partner, lucky never capsize before she threw up.
After that we washed up, with the hose mainly, not an actual shower, and then had dinner. And we didnt have to cook! THe cookhouse prepared dinner for us!
Then small debrief and inspiration talk by our instructors. and then we pitched our tents with 3 other groups, JUNKO and COUSTEAU. Arnold's and Zakiah's group respectively.
That was toally in the dark so it was pretty hard.
And I asked Arnold to come help me pitch the tent and suddenly my instructor came and said:" You're not from my group right?"
Arnold: "Err.. No."
Me: "Oh, I asked him to come and help since he already finished his tent. He's helping us."
Instructor:"May I know your name, group and instructor?"
Arnold told her everything.
And my instructor walked off.
I was thinking to myself :"Oh shit, i think i just got him into trouble." So i told him to go back to his tent, I didn't know helping other group people was a crime. Suddenly, i saw him walking slowly to my instructor who interrogated him and his instructor. OMG i felt like crap. I was hoping and praying i didn't get him into trouble. THen he waslked to his tent and din't come back after they lectured him.
I couldn't sleep from then. I kept thinking about what the instructors could have said. I felt so guilty and worried. I took so dam long to sleep.
Day 3:
In the morning, i wanted to apologize and ask him what happened, but he was far away unpitching his tent, adn my group was all done so we had to walk off.
After washing up and stuff, we had warm up and some silly games at the parade square thingy. Arnold raised the flag, maaaannn, i wanted too. lol.
I didnt wanna look at him cause i thought he was angry at me.
Then we jogged to our sleeping area cause we had to clean it up. And he picked up a stone near me to throw it to the side and i apologized to him softly(cause i was sad that he was angry with me) and asked softly was the instructors said. And he just walked away with the stone. Without acknowledging anything. At that moment, I thought he really was angry and i wanted to cry.
We jogged back to the place where all our bags were was called to Pool Deck, and my group was next to his, and my bag was next his. But he dragged his bag behind the pillar so i couldn't see him. I thought he was angry at me and didnt even wanna look at me.
So I ate my breakfast there in silence, hugging my knees. Super sad that he was angry with me.
Then he sat near me and suddenly said: "Why you stoning?"
Omg i was so happy he talked to me!
I apologized and asked what happened, still guilty. And you know what he said?
"Oh, they saw me using my phone and asked me not to use it again"
WHAT THE HELL MAN. I was sad and angry at myself for nothing. To explain the earlier apologizing, i guess he just didnt hear me. walau eh....
Yea so we started talking like normal again and he assured me nothing was my fault. =)
Then we had our land expedition. So had to drag our heavy bags to the parade square thing for briefing.
First, had to solve a scrambled puzzle.
THen, find our checkpoints with the cluses given.
THEN GO! =)
We were the last to leave.
And after about 4 grueling hours of wrong directions, hot weather, eating breaks and singing while trekking, we reached our destination FIRST!!!! By a minute!!!! Om,g we were so dam happy, we didnt know it was possible.
Happiest moment there man.
Then we built rafts with the materials given. Had to do a commercial with it, And it was successful! It flaoted, although one barrel almost popped out, but all 16 of us managed to sit on it while floating. Oh yea, and we jumped into the quarry before that. The clearest, bestest water ever. Played there for awhile too, and that was our shower. =)
Unfortunately, we had to dismantle our rafts and pack up before we headed to our campsite.
But this campsite was diferent. It was just gravel as ground, with a forest around us, and a coast beyond the fence nearby. You would imagine it to be really nice, but it was actually pretty ordinary. And we had to pitch tents(luckily in light) near antholes. Toobad for us. And the ground was so dam hard so we couldn't use pegs. We had to tie strings to rocks and use that. Wah dam frustrating man. If you tripped over a rock, that's it, the tent was going down
To get to the toilet, we had to walk along the fence, in between the forest and the coast. All the way to the end till the fence blocked our way. And the beach was in front, forest beside, rocks, yes ROCKS as the ground.
There you go, pee and shit there. No privacy, except that's it's deep in.
The boys were worse. THey just had to go inside tall plants, onyl about 30 metres from our campsite. lol.
Then dinner! Maggie mee for dinner! It was the most scruptious thing we had then. And to wash our utensils and mass tins, just rinse in the sea. Walau, the sea was full of flaoting maggi and our tins had oil which could not be removed. But who cares? Just pack inside the bag. lol
Oh, and an unfortunate event happened. You see, it's a steep slope down to the coast. So my group friend, shan't reveal for the sake of privacy, was helping people down. And
Arnold was about to go down, so she offered him help. He rejected and just old her to hold his utensils while he tried to get down. Then Arnold slipped and her instinct was to push him to prevent him from falling. The maggie spilt over Arnold and Arnold replied with his sarcastic: "thanks ah, thanks".
She took it seriously and got fed up. She walked up to me and WeiJia and blabbered about the whole incident. And she scolded Arnold and insulted him in FRONT OF MY FACE. All inclusive of insults and racist remarks. Wth man, firstly, I'M INDIAN TOO, secondly, HE'S MY FRIEND. And i had to withstand listening to her insult him in front of my face, and all i could do was stand there and tell myself not to punch her.
After she finished and stuff, I went to talk to Arnold and told him everything. I mean, im not a telltale, he's my friend, i just had to. WE talked for about 15 minutes. I was dam angry man, you know i almost cried. Yea, that's ow angry i was. But Arnold was the one trying to calm me down. He wasn't angry at all. But it was nice talking to him. Yea I like talking to him.
Then we had a mass briefing for the next day's sea expedition so I couldn't let HER see me with Arnold just inc ase she thought i told him everything(cause i dont think she knew i was his frined) and we sat away from each other.
After almost a 45 minute briefing, we headed to sleep.
Sentry duty for half an hour, and i was given this super bright torchlight that could shine way up into the sky!!! Nobody did sentry after 2 am, so i did it for nothing.
I kept waking up in the middle of the night to pluck ants SPECIFICALLY off my face and left elbow. Plucked them off, squashed them and threw them to one side. Dam ants.
Day 4:
In the morning, our tents had ants in them! And our bags were swarming with them, luckily we didnt keep our bags in our tents. We suspected cause of our food inside. Had constant bites and they were so dam iritating. Hate ants now.
We Woke up around 5 and straight away prepared for our sea expedition! The whole Alpha mobile went together. Alpha mobile consists of the 4 groups.
Paddled with Nasuha for 6 hours and 20 minutes.
It was dam irritating when everybody kept banging into our boat, not even saying sorry. Others, would just say hello to you, literally lift their paddles over their heads and give a stumped look as they crashed into you. Omg i was dam angry.
THE BOATS AREN'T CHEAP YOU KNOW? THE LEAST, LEAST YOU COULD DO IS SAY SORRY.
One girl even, FROM OUR SCHOOL, hit my head with the dam paddle and just looked at me. So i waited for an apology, but it never came. So i just said: "OH IT'S OK". Wth.
WE stopped a few times to snack, cause we could bring ziplocs with snacks into the boat.
And got out of our boat only once to eat lunch.
My butt hurt like mad.
And Arnold's ziploc was dam big with a whole lot of food.
Kayaked like 3/4 of the island, BACK to campsite 2. And we reached an hour early!!
SO THE SECOND BEST PART HAPPENED. WE GOT TO DO A JETTY JUMP!!!!
As we were walking down the jetty, i saw jellyfish floating, so abit scary ah.
And the jump was amazing. I shouted: "Jellyfish, please don't eat me" as i jumped. And it took dam long to hit the water. seriously. I was like: "Why haven't reached the water yet?" lol.
But it was so nice to jump in, refresh ourselves.
Had to bring Jasper with me cause he was a weak swimmer.
Oh, and iw as probably swimming in a whole lot of pee. lol. Natural toilet.
Then we hosed down everything, boats, lifejackets, ourselves. Wash off all the pee. lol.
Showered and had dinner!
Celebration dinner, so we cooked so much and we had to present our dinner to the whole Alpha group. DEscribe each dish as what it represented during our journey.
Example, the maggie mee, which was what i presented.
"At first, the maggie is compact as inflexible. Just like us, our comfort zone is limited and we don wanna try new things. But After putting it into hot water, representing our obstacles and challenges, it becomes flexible and spreads out, just like how our comfort zone has widened and we are willing to try new things"
THIS IS WHERE YOU CLAP. =)
So dinner was yummy, super yummy. And Junko made apple crumble which was AMAZING. Mashed apple, ovaltine power and crushed digestive biscuit was all they needed. omg it was dam good. But it was sugegsted by their instructor of course. haha.
We unpacked our bags and into our own bags and then set off to pitch our tents!
It was at campsite 2, but a different spot.
Gosh, the ground was the best ever ground we had. ALL our tents looked perfect.
Many people stayed up to talk, but since our tent area was near the instructor lounge, we got scolding from up top. lol, everybody scrambled into any tent nearby. haha, it was dam funny.
Oh yea, all our nights, we slept with Battuta nearby, so lindsay Syafiqah, Nasuha and I always
slept in one tent.
One of the best sleep man.
Day 5:
Unpitched the tent for the last time and washed up in time for PT again. MY knee hurt abit, but i withstood it. 5 B-Ex again.
And a silly game with Alpha(excluding Battuta).
Then had to wash all the tents, ponchos, ground sheets, fly sheets and return everything to it's rightful place in the storage room. THAT took a long time. My socks and shoes got all wet, so quite disgusting ah...
Then our turn to clean up the corridor outside the storage rooms.
Then we went for our debrief, followed by closing.
It was dam sad, my group teared up INCLUDING ME YES, and we were soon seperated as we got on the boat by school.
We exchanged our numbers so we could contact each other anytime.
Reached punggol and the souvenir shop opened just in time before our bus came.
Bought a dri-fit tee and bought hazel's one too.
Said by to arnold and Najeera again, cause they reached punggol before we left.
and we headed on the bus and back to school about 2 pm.
one of my best memories, i miss OBS. But i wouldn't go for it again. lol.
I miss talking to arnold alot, cause i got used to seeing him everyday. I realized i can talk to him alot. Think we got even closer. =)
AS FRIENDS OF COURSE. heehee.
There, that was my journey that past 5 days.
I enjoyed it, really good experience.
I miss it.
Thanks for reading if you did.
Shona~
We'll see
heeeelo.
BRIDGING IS FINALLY OVER.
Well, for me it is! =)
Toobad it's extended, i'll be at OBS!
But i'm gonna miss alot, especially physics, cause im missing out on 6 periods. Yes.
There's one period of english, one period of MT, one period of Bio, one period of chem, and SIX periods of physics the whole week.
But it's ok, it's all practicals so it wouldn't be so boring.
Oh, and monday, we have one period of bio replacing physics.
AND IM GONNA MISS BIO SPA SKILL PRACTICAL!!!!
Dammit.
But mrs quek is nice enough to do the less important practicals next week, so we wouldn't miss out too much.
Oh, and i heard during obs, there'll be students from other school going, and arnold's going to the same one as me!!!!
But i heard i won't be able to get to talk to him cause apparently, according to my sources (a.k.a Hazel and Edwin), I'll be going for the leadership one, not the survival one, so we only mix with BGSS students.
Well i hope not,I'd love to interact with arnold there. =)
ANDAND, next week is vulnerable for me to get me MONTHLY SURPRISE. I'm hoping and praying like mad that it doesn't come till i come back.
ACtually im hoping it'll come within the span that im at home. Which is after OBS, before sec 3 camp. Which is, between 13th to 18th. Ugh.....
In OBS there's gonna be like 10 hour long canoeing, and if i get it really heavy, im doomed for. And we dont get regular toilet breaks, or dont get to go when we want to, only when they give us allocated timings.
I'm praying.
Ok, that's all for now, i have FLC IT training tomorrow. =)
AND I JUST WACTHED THE B.E.P BIGGEST FLASHMOB DANCE IN HISTORY, I LOVE THEM AND I GET GOOSEBUMPS WHENEVER I WATCH IT.
"IT WAS THE COOLEST THING EVER!" AS quoted by Oprah, they performed on her show, go and search for it, and watch it!
See you then,
I need the gym!
Shona~
So what's left?
